Ever since I started blogging more for what I want, instead of what I think people will want to read, I've lost followers and that's fine. I've unfollowed blogs before, I completely understand. What is making me more and more angry, and consequently making me resent blogging, are the bloggers who get mad because they lost a follower or two. Calling these people out or worse, bitching and complaining passive aggressively so the person(s) they are talking about probably won't read it, but the rest of us do.
Obviously we all have those feelings of rejection, trust me I'm the expert on over analyzing people and wondering why don't they like me. But I just can't wrap my head around the people who blog just for the followers. Is this really why you started your blog in the first place?
There are blogs I have followed for years whose owners have never mentioned how many people follow them/comment. And the bloggers I follow who do mention followers/comments often? I generally lose interest, not because of the comments, but because their overall content really pails in comparison to those who blog for themselves.
I'm not acting like I haven't got wrapped up in the popularity contest. The OMG people like me! Eeeeeeee! thoughts definitely crossed my mind after I first started blogging. But it wasn't me, and I can't pretend that I like something I don't or I end up resenting it hence the reason I hardly blogged last spring/summer. Commenting on a million blogs in hopes that they will come to mine is, for lack of a better word, DUMB.
On another, semi-related note, I have so enjoyed getting to know people and forming those true connections with a few of you. I will never be as cliquey as other bloggers {and twitter-ers, don't get me started} but I consider myself a good judge of character and some of these people, you know who you are, are just awesome people. So thank you for being my bloggy friends. :)

and this post is exactly why I'm a new follower! Nicely said.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, friend!! Like you, I still get amazed by HOW wrapped up people get about losing followers, gaining followers, etc. I wrote about it a while ago, and got good feedbag, which is nice to hear and know that others feel the same way. I get wrapped up in it too on accident, asking myself why I'm not getting as many comments as normal... but I quickly remind myself that I do NOT blog for comments, I blog to remember my life!! Love ya friend! :-D
ReplyDeleteI definitely think you have to blog for yourself! That's what matters!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with all of this! There are definitely cliques in blogland, and it's more than a little obnoxious!
ReplyDeleteCheers to you staying true to yourself! :)
