I recently read an article on a blog that outlined the reasons why the Hunger Games is better than Twilight:
1. The storyline in The Hunger Games is one that grabs you and won’t let you go. You can’t stop thinking about it. What if our society really became like the Districts one day?
2. While a love story plays a big part in The Hunger Games and there is even a love triangle, there is so much more to the story than just a romance.
3. The Hunger Games appeals to a wider audience. You could see men going to see this without being dragged their by their wives.
4. Katniss is such a strong female lead, unlike Bella, who is sorry to say a whiner most of the time.
5. Team Edward vs Team Jacob? Forget that! Try Team Peeta and Team Gale!
I agree completely with all of the above. I also have a few of my own to add. So here they are...
Reasons why I think The Hunger Games is better than Twilight:
6. As crazy/scary/heart racing The Hunger Games is, it's believable. Believable in a terrifying/paranoid kind of way.
7. Dystopian novels outweigh urban fantasies in my book {hehe, nerd pun} any day.
8. While she wasn't my first choice, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen is so much better than Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan.

10. Three words: No more glitter.
Saying all that, I did like Twilight when the books first came out, but now... I'm just kind of over them. And honestly, even when I was reading them there were parts where I was like Ok, enough bitching, Bella...can we just move on now?
The Hunger Games was a whole different story. I was glued to the pages and hanging on each and every word. I've always loved Dystopian/Utopian fiction even when I was forced to read them in school a la 1984 and Brave New World.
And for the record: Team Peeta.
And my vote? Hunter.
:)

I'm still not sold on Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss. I'm sure they know what they're doing... but I would have never ever thought of her. On the other hand, Hunter Parrish could work as Peeta. I have seen a couple other guys who would work but that is definitely the look I pictured. Actually though, as I was reading I pictured Peeta like Trevor Donovan (who plays Teddy on the new 90210). He is old for that role but so blonde, pretty and dumb faced :) hahaha!
ReplyDeleteWho do you picture for Haymitch?
I need to read this book!
ReplyDeleteI did a post yesterday about the Hunger Games and I said the same thing about Bella being whiny. I still don't know why Edward and Jacob were so in love with her. But I LOVE Katniss. I joke with my husband (who likes to bow hunt) that if we have a daughter she'll be like Katniss. I LOVED the books and can't stop thinking about the stories. I'm so excited for the movies and like you still not sure about Jennifer Lawrence but hopefully she'll pull it off.
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy but I would've really liked to see Dakota Fanning as Katniss.. she has that GRR survivor thing going, AND she is young enough. The girl they picked looks TOO OLD. Anyway... LOVE the trilogy and recommend it to anyone who will listen. Gotta love the post-apocalyptic distopian novel. Reminds me of a cross between 1984, The Giver and Brave New World
ReplyDeleteEeeeyuck. I read all of the Twilight books and hardly liked them. The biggest difference? Suzanna Collins CAN WRITE. Okay, sorry, that was a little mean ;-) I'm not sure who this Hunter kid is but he's cute! I can definitely see him as Peeta! I have a question though... why are these actors SO old looking?? :-(
ReplyDeleteI've read both of the series but i love the Hunger Games!!!! I thought Jennifer Lawrence was a great pick for Katniss and I can't wait to see who they pick as Peeta. I am completely Team Peeta!
